Functional Medicine

Hormone Testing & Therapy · Vitamins & Nutrients · Modalities

Hormonal imbalances and nutrient deficiencies show up in your body as joint pain, fatigue, muscle loss, and changes in bone density. When hormone testing identifies what is driving your physical symptoms, Lakeside builds a physiotherapy programme around those findings — bone-loading exercise for hormone-related osteoporosis risk, resistance training to counter muscle loss, and manual therapy for hormone-driven joint pain and stiffness.

Specialized Care Pathways

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Menopause & Perimenopause

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my GP to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist?

No. You can book directly with Lakeside Health and Sport. If your insurance plan requires a physician referral for reimbursement, speak with your provider before booking. Many extended health plans cover pelvic floor physiotherapy under physiotherapy benefits.

Internal assessment can provide the most accurate picture of pelvic floor function and is often recommended — but it is never mandatory. Your physiotherapist will explain the options and you remain in full control of what assessment takes place. Many patients progress significantly with external assessment and treatment alone.

No. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is effective at any age and at any stage of symptom duration. Even long-standing incontinence and prolapse respond well to correctly prescribed physiotherapy. The sooner you start, the sooner you will notice change — but it is never too late.

Yes, and this is actually the ideal time to start. Proactive intervention in perimenopause — for pelvic floor, bone health, and muscle mass — is far more effective than waiting for problems to develop. Think of it as investing in your physical health for the decades ahead.

Yes. Joint pain and stiffness (menopausal arthralgia) are among the most common and least-discussed symptoms of menopause. Manual therapy, targeted exercise, and movement education can significantly reduce this pain and improve your range of motion and daily comfort.

This is extremely common and very treatable. Urinary leakage during exercise is a pelvic floor dysfunction, not an inevitable fact of life. Treating the underlying pelvic floor issue typically resolves the leaking and removes the barrier to exercise. Book a pelvic floor assessment at Lakeside and we will address both goals together.

Most patients notice meaningful improvement within 6 to 12 weeks of consistent treatment. Some conditions resolve more quickly, others require longer programmes. Your physiotherapist will set realistic expectations at your first appointment based on your specific diagnosis and history.

GraceMed manages the medical and hormonal side of women’s health — hormone therapy, medical weight management, specialist assessments. Lakeside manages the physical function side — pelvic floor rehabilitation, strength and mobility, exercise prescription, and physiotherapy. The two approaches complement each other well, and your Lakeside physiotherapist can direct you to GraceMed if a medical assessment is indicated.

Yes. Antenatal pelvic floor physiotherapy is highly recommended. Strengthening and training your pelvic floor before delivery significantly reduces the risk of incontinence and prolapse postpartum, and prepares your body for the demands of labour. We also offer pre/post-natal pilates and yoga at Lakeside.

I had a great experience at Lakeside Health and Sport. My physiotherapy assessment with Saurav Roy was excellent. I went in with a right-hand issue and couldn’t lift weights properly, and he made noticeable progress in just one session. I also had a 60-minute massage with Jordan Trivino, who was very professional and focused exactly on the tight areas. I left feeling much better. Highly recommend both!

What a great experience with Dr. Saurav, after trying three different Phisio clinics, I’m happy to have landed something so close to home where Mary at the front desk takes care of me like I’m family and Dr. Saurav treats my Phisio needs with impeccable detail, where he has treated and found areas of concern that other do not even look at. From the initial consultation to only my second appointment I feel a difference and have hope that I’ll be able to run my next marathon in the not to distant future!! Thank you to all the staff at Lakeside Physiotherapy!!

Jane So is the most attentive physiotherapist I’ve ever been too! She asked lots of questions and manipulated my leg and sore knee in many ways and asked for feedback to understand the underlying cause of my pain. Well, I had been suffering for weeks, and within days of following the exercises and other instructions I felt much better.
