Elbow Pain That Won't Go Away?
Tennis elbow keeps you out of the gym, the office, and the things you enjoy. Most people wait too long before treating it. We get you better faster — with hands-on physiotherapy that addresses the root cause, not just the pain.
Is This What Your Elbow Feels Like?
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is an overuse injury to the tendon on the outside of your elbow. You don’t have to play tennis to get it — repetitive gripping, typing, painting, or lifting are just as common causes.
What's Actually Happening in Your Elbow
Tennis elbow isn’t joint inflammation. It’s degeneration of the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon — the tendon attaching your forearm muscles to the bony bump on the outside of your elbow. Repetitive strain causes microtears that don’t heal without the right stimulus.
How We Get You Better
Evidence-based care. No guesswork. Real results.
Every case is different. We assess which structures are involved, how far the tendon has degenerated, and what’s driving the overload — before we start treatment. Then we build a plan around your situation, not a generic protocol.

Assessment
We identify exactly which tendon, which load, and which movement pattern is driving your pain. Nothing is assumed.

Manual Therapy & Shockwave
Hands-on techniques reduce pain immediately. Shockwave therapy accelerates tendon healing where rest alone has failed.

Targeted Loading
Eccentric and isometric exercises rebuild tendon strength progressively — creating lasting recovery, not just temporary relief.

FAQs
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients with tennis elbow see significant improvement in 4 to 8 sessions. Cases that have been untreated for a long time may need more. Your physiotherapist will give you a realistic timeline at your first appointment based on how your tendon responds.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. You can book directly with Lakeside — no GP referral needed. If your insurance requires a physician referral for reimbursement, check with your provider before booking. Most extended health plans cover physiotherapy directly.
Is this covered by insurance?
Physiotherapy is included under most Ontario extended health benefit plans. Lakeside direct bills Sun Life, Manulife, Great-West Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield, and most other major providers. Call us and we’ll confirm your coverage before your first appointment.
I've had tennis elbow for months. Is it too late?
Not at all. Chronic tennis elbow — including cases lasting 6 to 12 months — responds well to the right physiotherapy approach. Shockwave therapy was specifically developed for chronic tendon injuries that haven’t improved with other treatments.
Can I keep working while treating it?
Usually yes, with some modifications. Your physiotherapist will advise on grip load, repetitive movements to reduce, and how to protect the tendon while it heals. Complete rest is rarely needed and often counterproductive.
What is shockwave therapy and do I need it?
Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s healing response in damaged tendon tissue. It’s particularly effective for tennis elbow that has persisted beyond 3 months. Not every patient needs it — your physiotherapist will recommend it only when clinically indicated for your case.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Just yourself. Wear or bring a short-sleeved top so we can assess your elbow and forearm properly. If you have any imaging (X-ray, ultrasound) related to your elbow, bring those too — though they’re not required.
